Botched private cosmetic surgery numbers on the rise

The cosmetic surgery industry is booming in the UK but unfortunately the number of botched private operations is also on the increase. Many people are falling victim to botched cosmetic surgery performed in particular by foreign surgeons.

The surgeons fly into the UK and use private UK clinics. However many private clinics where these surgeons are practicing, refuse to help patients following the surgery as they believe the contract is between the surgeon and the patients, rather than with the clinic themselves. These surgeons often do not have the correct insurance to cover them should something go wrong.

A member of the British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgeons (Baasp) commented, “Many clinics use foreign surgeons because they are cheaper. But their insurance may not cover mistakes made in Britain. So patients must pay again, or the NHS has to pick up the pieces.”
