Dangers of Breast Implant Ruptures Make Implants a Time Bomb for Women | Oct 31, 2012

San Francisco, CA -- (SBWIRE) -- 10/31/2012 -- Breast implant ruptures in Australia have soared in 2012, which has resulted in an urgent call for a national register of women to log their surgeries.

Over 400 breast implants produced by PIP, a French company, have ruptured between the nine months between January and September. The number comes from a medicine watchdog group, Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

The number has taken a staggering upturn, as 37 ruptures were recorded last year. The TGA said last year it would not call more than 6,000 women who have PIP implants to have them removed. This, despite the fact that the French Government recommended all French women should in fact have them at least examined.

The TGA said they received only 37 indications of rupture and it was “well within the expected rupture rates for silicone breast implants.”
