The prostheses were composed of industrial silicone
It was not until 2010 that the fraud was uncovered. After thousands of cases of women who had the PIP prostheses exploited them prematurely (after three or five years of its implementation) from France gave the alarm: the PIP prostheses were made of industrial silicone.
This was what allowed Jean-Claude Mas, founder of the fraudulent company, reduce the manufacturing cost of each prosthesis only 2 euros. Implants that were sold to surgeons for the same value as the rest of the competition, as says Dr. Javier Moreno MarĂn, president of the Professional Union of Physicians and Surgeons of Spain Aesthetic: "Surgeons have not profited in this respect . "
According to the doctor, the difference between PIP and other prostheses is the tendency to rapid rupture of the first. "Statistically break up almost 40% more than other brands," he says, according to studies from March 2012.
However, no agency discovered the poor quality of the prosthesis until the first cases of breakage. "The Ministry of Health should have had the bravery and dignity of saying that they had not done the necessary checks," adds Dr. Moreno.
